Default Legal Battle

Well, I was considering to start gliding because I'm tired of the thoughtless chore of grinding.

Then I came across the following this morning:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7314353.stm

Is this something that I should worry about for the future of glide support?

Merc pwns Blizzard. Don't sweat it. This program works great, and I don't see it going away.

Last Updated: Wednesday, 26 March 2008, 11:16 GMT it says above the title.

Anyway:

"Blizzard has said the tool infringes copyright because it copies the game into RAM in order to avoid detection by anti-cheat software."

It would be fun to prove that, since WoW loads itself into RAM when you try to play. And I don't think Glider actually copies all the memory WoW uses and then reads it, that would be stupid. Instead it probably looks for very specific information that is located somewhere in that giant heap of info WoW loads and then processes it, that doesn't even mean it is directly copied. As BBC puts it, that case is going nowhere.

I don't see them having much of a case either, I just hope the creators of Glider don't back down to the pimp slap from Blizzard.

Even if glider copies the game to RAM, how is that illegal? I legally purchased the game ... I can't legally make a temporary copy to RAM?

well i think from what ive read in the legal documents thats online. Is that mdy and blizzard are waiting on a judge to decide whether or not glider actually infringes on any copyright or eulas. There is a possibility a judge will say yes it does and then mdy might be forced to stop selling and updating glider.

it is also not just glider - if there are other programmes out there that copy to RAM then a judgement in favour of Bliz in this case would open up lot of shit in lots of other areas of industry.
